  • Four West Coast Partnership Development (WCPD) employees team up for charity walk
  • Money raised by the group will go to the Railway Children charity
  • Metropolitan route picked as it celebrates it’s 160th anniversary this year

A team from the West Coast Partnership Development (WCPD) have completed the gruelling 20km long Metropolitan Line Trail walk in aid of the Railway Children.

Anne Venning from the Business Design team; Ian Coles from Customer Experience; and Martin Ward and Simon Aslett – both part of the Rolling Stock team, joined others from across the rail industry to raise money for the charity.

The walking route, which was picked to celebrate the 160th anniversary of the Metropolitan line, ran from Wembley Park station in northwest London to Aldgate in the city.

The trail is part of a Rail Aid series of events - a fundraising initiative that raises vital support for the work of Railway Children. The money raised from the walk will help Railway Children reach and protect more vulnerable children on the streets and railways of India, Tanzania and the UK.

So far the team have raised over £1000, and people can still donate at the following website: Rail Aid: Metropolitan line Rail Trail (enthuse.com).

Speaking afterwards, Martin Ward said: “It was a fantastic occasion and great to mix with so many from the industry including our partners at HS2 Ltd, Hitachi and Alstom.

“The Railway Children is such a worthwhile charity to support, having personally done several events for them before today, and for us to raise £1000 as a team is a brilliant achievement. Thank you to all who have supported us!”
